Job83

POPIA data protection policy

How Job83 protects personal information.

This policy explains Job83’s data-protection responsibilities under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) across the Job83 website and native Android app.

Responsible party and privacy contact

Job83 determines why and how personal information is processed for the Job83 service and acts as the responsible party for that processing. Privacy, POPIA, access, correction, objection, deletion, and security questions can be sent to the Job83 privacy contact at [email protected].

POPIA processing principles

Job83 aims to process information lawfully, fairly, transparently, for a defined purpose, and only to the extent reasonably needed. We work to keep information accurate, limit unnecessary retention, apply safeguards, and support participation by the person whose information is processed.

Information covered

Protected information may include account and contact details, profile and preference data, CV and Z83 fields, identity-related application details supplied by the user, qualifications and employment history, declarations, signatures and initials, uploaded documents, saved jobs, alerts, applications, messages, billing references, device identifiers, advertising choices, usage events, and security logs.

Why processing is allowed

Depending on the feature and information, Job83 processes information because the user consented, requested a service or document, entered a contract or account relationship with Job83, because processing is required by law, or because Job83 or another party has a legitimate interest that does not override the user’s rights. Optional consent may be withdrawn without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Purpose and reuse

Information is used to operate accounts, search and match jobs, save preferences, produce CVs and Z83 forms, store user-requested documents, manage applications and alerts, provide billing and support, prevent fraud, secure the service, measure reliability, and meet legal duties. Job83 does not reuse personal information for an incompatible purpose without another lawful basis or notice.

Special and high-risk information

CVs, Z83 forms, signatures, identity-related fields, declarations, and supporting documents can contain sensitive information. Users should provide only what is needed for a legitimate application and should not upload passwords, one-time PINs, banking credentials, or unrelated private records. Job83 applies additional access controls to stored candidate documents.

Automated tools and AI

Matching and AI-assisted tools organise information and provide suggestions; they do not make a legally binding employment decision for an employer or government department. Users must review generated wording and documents before applying and may choose not to accept an AI suggestion.

Operators and sharing

Job83 may use operators and service providers for hosting, databases, storage, email, notifications, security, analytics, AI/document processing, payments, and advertising. They should process information only for the contracted service, protect confidentiality, and notify Job83 of relevant security compromises. Job83 does not sell candidate CVs or profiles as a data product.

Processing outside South Africa

Some infrastructure or service providers may process information in another country. Job83 will use a provider or transfer mechanism that offers appropriate contractual, legal, or other protection required for the information and the transfer.

Retention and deletion

Account and workspace information is kept while needed to provide the requested service. Payment, security, fraud-prevention, dispute, and legal records may be retained where required or reasonably necessary. When information is no longer needed and no lawful retention reason applies, Job83 will delete, destroy, or de-identify it. Account deletion can be requested through the Android Profile screen or the public Account Deletion page.

Security and security compromises

Job83 uses reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including HTTPS in production, protected authentication tokens, restricted private-file routes, role-based access, and service monitoring. If a qualifying security compromise occurs, Job83 will investigate, limit harm, and notify the Information Regulator and affected people as soon as reasonably possible where POPIA requires it.

Your POPIA rights

A person may ask whether Job83 holds their information, request access or correction, request deletion where applicable, object to certain processing, withdraw optional consent, or ask about a decision affecting their information. Send the request from the account email to [email protected]; Job83 may verify identity before releasing or changing personal information.

Direct marketing and advertising

Electronic direct marketing is sent only where a lawful basis exists and must include a practical opt-out. Free users may see advertising subject to consent and device choices. Active R50 candidates do not see Job83 ad placements during their 30-day access, although essential security and account processing continues.

Children and other people’s information

Job83 is designed for people seeking legitimate work. A person who is not legally able to consent should use Job83 with a parent or guardian where required. Users must not upload another person’s personal information unless they have authority and a lawful reason to do so.
